Love is like the wild rose-briar, Friendship is like the holly-tree

THING
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms But which will bloom most constantly?
HAPPENS
The wild-rose briar is sweet in the spring, Its summer blossoms scent the air

FOR
Yet wait till winter comes again And who will call the wild-briar fair?

A
Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now And deck thee with the holly's sheen,

REASON
That when December blights thy brow He may still leave thy garland green.

만물은 무상하므로 생명이 있는 자는 반드시 멸하고, 만나는 자는 반드시 헤어진다.

차있는것이 비어있는것이고 비어있는것이 차있는것이며 헤어진자는 반드시 돌아오며

간자는 다시 돌아오게 되어있다 라는 뜻입니다.
